Chapter 10 - FOREVER DANIEL

That evening, the sun set over the quiet coastal town of Stonington, thirty miles south of the university.
Daniel and Lily walked along the wooden pier behind their modest two-story home. The ocean was calm, reflecting the deep purple and gold of the twilight sky like liquid glass. A light breeze rustled the pine trees along the shore.
Lily walked beside her father, her hand slipped comfortably into the arm of his canvas jacket.
"Dad?" she asked, her voice clear, strong, and completely recovered.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Dr. Aris said today that my final medical clearance came through," she said, looking out at the sea. "He said I don't have to come back for any more checkups."
"I know," Daniel said softly. "He called me this afternoon."
They stopped at the end of the wooden pier, watching the fishing boats return to the harbor with their yellow lights glowing in the dusk.
"Dad..." Lily turned to look at him, her hazel eyes bright and serious. "Are you ever going to tell me who you were before I was born?"
Daniel stood quietly in the cool evening sea breeze.
He looked back at the house behind them—the small home with the warm lights burning in the windows, the garden patches they had planted together, the old Volvo parked in the driveway, and the life they had built out of honest work, quiet days, and absolute love.
He reached out, placing his large, warm hand over hers.
"I was a man who was lost, Lily," Daniel said softly, looking down into her face. "A man who didn't know what it meant to have a home."
He smiled—a gentle, fatherly smile that held no shadows, no secrets, and no fear.

"And then you came into my life," Daniel whispered. "And you made me Daniel Walker."
Lily smiled, holding his arm tightly as they stood together on the pier, watching the night sky fill with stars, completely safe, completely whole, and standing forever in the light.
