Chapter 9 - The Legacy Reclaimed

Six months later.
Spring had returned to Newport in a burst of vibrant color. Pink hydrangeas, white lilies, and yellow daffodils bloomed across the cliffside gardens of the Mercer estate.
At the East Cottage, a small, intimate gathering of family and close friends sat in white wooden chairs arranged across the lush green lawn facing the ocean.
Standing beneath a white floral archway near the cliff’s edge was Dominic Mercer, looking regal in a dark grey tailored suit. Standing beside him as his best man was nine-year-old Noah, wearing a matching suit with a proud, beaming smile.
The soft sounds of a violin filled the warm morning air.
Everyone stood up.
Walking down the rose-petal aisle, holding a bouquet of white peonies and lavender, was Emma Collins.
She wore a breathtaking, simple ivory silk gown that flowed around her like water, her dark hair pinned back with Catherine Mercer’s delicate silver butterfly hairpins—a personal gift given to her by Natalie that morning.
Dominic watched her walk toward him, his dark eyes filled with an intensity of love and pride so deep that it brought tears to the eyes of every guest present.
When Emma reached the altar, Dominic took her hands in his. His fingers were warm, steady, and protective.
The minister stepped forward, opening his book.
“We are gathered here today in the presence of family and friends to unite Dominic Mercer and Emma Collins in holy matrimony,” the minister announced warmly. “A union built not on politics or pride, but on trust, courage, and enduring love.”
They exchanged their vows—simple, quiet promises spoken directly from their hearts under the bright Atlantic sky.
“With this ring,” Dominic said, sliding a breathtaking emerald-cut diamond ring onto Emma’s finger, “I give you my name, my home, and my eternal devotion.”
“With this ring,” Emma whispered, sliding a solid platinum band onto his finger, “I give you my heart, my strength, and my life.”
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister declared with a radiant smile. “You may kiss the bride.”
Dominic wrapped his powerful arms around Emma’s waist, pulling her flush against him as he lowered his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their lives together forever.
The guests erupted into joyful applause! Noah cheered loudly, tossing rose petals into the air as the puppy barked happily beside him.
Dominic pulled back, looking down at his new wife with absolute, radiant adoration.

“Welcome home, Mrs. Mercer,” he whispered.
Emma smiled up at him, her heart overflowing with love. “I’m already home, Dominic.”
