Chapter 7 - THE IMPLOSION ON PARK AVENUE

The Hale family penthouse on Park Avenue was a fifteen-million-dollar triplex featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls, private elevator access, and panoramic views of Central Park.
At two o'clock that afternoon, the interior of the living room looked like a war zone.
Legal documents, financial printouts, and empty coffee cups covered the glass coffee tables. Senator Thomas Hale was pacing frantically across an antique Persian rug, shouting into a cell phone while his son, Julian, sat pale and sweating in front of a laptop.
Vanessa sat on a silk sofa, wearing a dark grey designer dress, her face contorted in bitter, explosive fury.
"He can't do this!" Vanessa screamed, slamming her crystal glass of gin down against the table. "He’s a bully! He threw my bags onto the driveway like I was garbage! Father, call the Governor! Call the Police Commissioner! Have Adrian Vale arrested for breach of contract!"
"Shut up, Vanessa!" Senator Hale roared, throwing his phone against the velvet couch. "Will you shut your stupid mouth for five minutes?!"
Vanessa froze, staring at her father in shock. "Father?!"
"The Governor isn't taking my calls!" the Senator yelled, his red face slick with sweat. "The Police Commissioner’s office told my assistant that the Department of Justice filed a sealed indictment against Hale Maritime twenty minutes ago!"
Julian looked up from his laptop, his hands shaking so violently he could barely hit the keys. "Father... it’s gone."
"What’s gone?!" Vanessa demanded, standing up.
"Apex Holdings," Julian whispered, his voice cracking with absolute panic. "Our Cayman entity... someone executed a thirty-million-dollar short squeeze against our underlying option positions. Our broker just liquidated our collateral! The forty million dollars we borrowed from the Singapore credit line is due in two hours, and our main corporate accounts just got frozen by a federal court order!"
Before anyone could speak, the private elevator doors at the end of the foyer opened with a soft, electronic chime.
Four uniformed Federal Marshals stepped out into the apartment, followed by Marcus Vance and two armed agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Senator Hale staggered backward, clutching the back of a armchair for support. "What is the meaning of this?!"
The lead FBI agent, Agent Miller, pulled a heavy gold badge from his coat and presented a folded paper document. "Thomas Hale, Julian Hale, and Vanessa Hale. I have a federal warrant for your arrest issued by the Southern District of New York."
Vanessa shrieked, backing away toward the glass terrace doors. "Arrest?! On what grounds?! This is my home! You can't touch me!"
Marcus Vance stepped forward, holding his leather briefcase, his face cold and merciless. "Miss Hale, you are charged with federal corporate espionage, illegal interception of electronic communications, grand theft of trade secrets, and conspiracy to commit securities fraud."
"I didn't steal anything!" Vanessa screamed, tears of panic finally breaking through her makeup. "Adrian gave me access to his house! I was his fiancée!"
"You picked the lock of an estate vault with two paid safe-crackers," Vance said flatly. "We have 4K high-definition video of you, your brother, and your father handing stolen storage drives to an offshore asset broker in Greenwich on Tuesday night. The video includes full audio of you discussing how you planned to drain the Vale Foundation's charity trust to cover your family's Singapore debt."
Vanessa’s knees gave out. She collapsed onto the silk rug, her hands clutching her head as she let out a long, pathetic wail of horror.
Agent Miller stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "Hands behind your back, Miss Hale."
"Father! Father, help me!" Vanessa sobbed as the heavy metallic CLICK of the cuffs locked around her wrists. "Call our lawyers! Call someone!"
Senator Hale didn't move. He stood frozen as another marshal stepped up behind him, placing cuffs around his wrists as well. "It’s over, Vanessa," the Senator whispered hollowly, staring at the floorboards. "He destroyed us. He destroyed everything in four hours."

As the marshals led the three ruined family members toward the private elevator, Marcus Vance pulled out his phone, sending a simple two-word text message to Adrian Vale:
Target secured.
