Chapter 10 - The Reign of the Rienzi

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in New York, blooming in rich greens and vibrant floral colors across the sprawling gardens of the Westchester estate.
The underworld had shifted dramatically. Vincenzo Conti had formally retired, passing the remains of his territory to Matteo, effectively unifying the Conti and Rienzi empires under a single, unchallenged throne. Leo Rienzi, realizing his son's influence was absolute and supported by a fierce, brilliant wife, had quietly stepped back to an advisory role in Florida.
The war was truly over.
On a warm Saturday morning, the estate was filled with the bright sound of laughter and music. A grand garden party was underway to celebrate the official consolidation of the families. Capos, politicians, and high-society figures mingled near the marble fountains, drinking fine wine and enjoying the peace that many had thought impossible a year ago.
Isabella stood on the grand stone patio overlooking the lawn, wearing a simple, elegant yellow sun dress that caught the spring breeze. She looked glowing, healthy, and radiantly happy.
A broad, warm hand gently rested on her waist from behind. Matteo stepped up beside her, wearing a crisp linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking relaxed and regal.
He leaned down, kissing the side of her neck. "You look beautiful, Mrs. Rienzi."
Isabella smiled, leaning back against his chest. "You look surprisingly relaxed for a Don."
"That's because my wife runs the empire better than I do," he teased softly, his arm wrapping around her middle, his hand coming to rest flat against her stomach.
Isabella placed her hand over his. Her smile deepened, a soft, secret joy flushing her cheeks.
Matteo paused. He felt a tiny, almost imperceptible warmth through the thin fabric of her dress. He looked down at her hand covering his, then turned her gently in his arms so he could look into her eyes.
"Isabella?" his voice suddenly lost its casual tone, replaced by an intense, trembling wonder.
Isabella looked up at him, her dark eyes shining with happy tears. She took his hand and pressed it a little firmer against her belly.
"The heir can't wait any longer, Matteo," she whispered softly.
Matteo froze. The Don who had faced down rival families, survived gunfights, and commanded hundreds of men stood completely speechless. His eyes widened, staring at her in absolute disbelief and profound joy.
"Are you...?" he stammered, a breathless laugh breaking from his lips—a sound so rare and genuine that several capos nearby turned in surprise.
"Yes," Isabella laughed, tears spilling over her lashes. "We're going to have a baby."
Matteo didn't care who was watching. He didn't care about his reputation or the hardened mobsters standing twenty feet away. He pulled his wife into his arms, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around on the sunlit patio, his laughter echoing across the garden.
When he set her down, he cupped her face in his hands, kissing her with a deep, consuming devotion that made her world go still.
"I love you, Isabella," he murmured against her lips, his voice thick with emotion. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, Matteo," she replied, resting her forehead against his.

Looking out over the peaceful estate, Isabella remembered the terrified girl who had stood in the cold hallway on her wedding night, frozen by a whispered promise of how babies were made in the mafia.
She had expected a life of fear, duty, and sacrifice. Instead, the dangerous boss who had taken her hand had given her freedom, respect, and a love strong enough to rewrite their entire world.
