Chapter 10 - THE UNBROKEN LEGACY

I walked down the broad granite steps of the main corporate building, stepping out into the bustling yard.

The sound of electric welders, heavy cranes, and shouting dockworkers filled the air—a loud, vibrant symphony of real industry, real work, and honest heritage that had been restored to my family's name.

At the edge of Dry Dock 2, standing near the massive steel bow of a naval cargo vessel, stood Mason.

He was wearing a dark blue work shirt, heavy leather boots, and a hard hat, holding a set of rolled architectural blueprints in his hands as he conversed with the chief shipyard engineer.

He was laughing—a rich, deep, resonant sound that echoed across the water.

When he saw me walking down the concrete pier, he rolled up the blueprints, said something to the engineer, and walked toward me with that long, confident, effortless stride that still brought a lump of quiet emotion to my throat every single time I saw it.

"How are the Q2 numbers looking, Chief Executive?" Mason asked with a grin, leaning down to kiss my cheek.

"The Navy just approved the three-hundred-million-dollar extension for the logistics fleet," I replied, smiling up at him. "We're fully booked for the next six years."

Mason looked out across the harbor, his gray eyes scanning the blue water where the James River met the Chesapeake Bay.

"Dad would have loved this," Mason said quietly.

"Dad is watching us right now, Mason," I said, reaching out and wrapping my arm through his strong, steady elbow. "Both of them are."

We stood together at the water's edge, watching the afternoon sun reflect off the steel hull of the ship, the cold, dark depths of the river far behind us forever.

The wheelchair that had sat in our hallway for fifteen years was gone, broken down and recycled into raw aluminum. The lies that had choked our family for a decade had been burned to ash.

And as the siren sounded across the shipyard signaling the change of the afternoon shift, my brother and I walked side by side toward the future—unbroken, undefeated, and finally, completely free.
